We woke up at 3 am in Dublin to catch our flight to Germany. Although we were incredibly tired due to minimal sleep, our excitement for what was coming later in the day kept us awake and alert. Once we landed and dealt with a very confusing car rental system in Frankfurt, we set off on the 1-hour drive to the Romantic Rhine town of Oberwesel.

We dropped our bags at our hotel, which happened to be a castle first built in the 10th century, and then walked into town to get lunch. The only bike rental store in town was unluckily closed for the week for their own vacation, so we were unable to rent bikes and took that as a sign to go back to the castle hotel to rest.

We were amazed at just how incredible our room was! We lounged around in luxury, taking a bath in our giant bathtub, sipping on the Reisling Sekt they had left in our room along with some chocolates and fruit. Then we got ready for our 5-course meal at the castle restaurant.

Our views during dinner were breathtaking. We were on a terrace looking directly over the Rhine River and the many vineyards on it’s banks, with the sun slowly dipping back down behind the hills. We got to taste multiple wines from the local vineyards along with our meal and loved one so much that we noted it down so we could try and schedule a tasting at the winery in the morning. the wines we’re perfectly paired with several of the courses including: meats/local sausages and cheeses, lobster, veal and a delicious chocolate cake and berry dessert.
